(10-15 cookies)
Ingredients
1/2 cup + 1 tablespoon cake flour
1/8 tsp baking powder
1/8 tsp baking soda
2 tablespoons sugar
3/4 tablespoon hot water
1 tablespoon vegetable oil
1/2 teaspoon custard powder (Bird’s Brand) + 1 tablespoon water ()
pinch salt
1/4 cup white sesame seeds
Additional oil for frying
Morning everyone!! So for today’s Chinese New Year treat, I have these “smiling” sesame cookies, which are crunchy on the outside, but cakey on the inside😊 The “smile” is actually the crack that forms when they are fried….they were a lot more addictive than I thought, so be warned😜
Looks amazing😍😋
Thank you!!
can I find these at 99 ranch? Would it be sold under a Chinese name?
Thanks again. Happy CYE to you!
Thanks I guess i’ll find out…If they are sold at any asian market, then they most likely will be sold there.
Hmmm…I don’t think I’ve been to the 99 Ranch before, but i know they’ll be selling a ton of Chinese New Year goodies, so check that section. The Chinese name is 笑口棗 (Mandarin pronunciation is xiao kou zao). Hope you find it!
