what does tofu taste like in a cake? Can one use avocados instead?
Hi Natasha. It tastes like chocolate here 🙂 You don’t notice much of a tofu flavor because the chocolate and espresso mask it well. I just recommend going with a brand of chocolate you really like to make sure the flavor is good. The tofu here helps the pie have a nice silky, velvety, yet sturdy consistency. Avocado could work for a chocolate pie, of course, but it would lead to a different flavor and consistency, so you’d need to adjust things and I’m not sure if in the end it would be close to a traditional “chocolate silk pie” vs. a tasty chocolate tart.
