DIM SUM – CHINESE TURNIP CAKES!! | VEGAN 蘿蔔糕 (Chinese New Year)

Vegan Dim Sum Turnip Cakes
(Makes 8-10 servings)

Daikon Filling:

1/2 pound daikon radish, cut into shreds
2 cups liquid, reserved radish liquid + water
1 tablespoon+ 2 teaspoons sugar
1 1/2 teaspoons salt
1 tablespoon vegan chicken powder
1/2 teaspoon white pepper

Batter:

1 cup rice flour
2/3 cup cornstarch
1 1/4 cups water

Vegetable Filling:

1-2 carrots, finely dice
1/3 cup dried shiitake mushrooms, rehydrated and finely diced
1 1/2 shallots, thinly sliced
4-5 stalks scallions, thinly sliced
1/2 teaspoon soy sauce
1/2 teaspoon minced garlic
1/4 teaspoon sugar

For Textured Vegetable Protein:

3 tablespoons textured vegetable protein (TVP)
1/8 teaspoon salt
1/4 teaspoon garlic powder
oil for frying

Serve with hoisin sauce.

    1. Jack Donegan Yup, there’s actually a lot of these “steamed” cakes in
      Chinese cooking. If you’re interested, I did a steamed white sugar cake
      earlier last yr. (pretty popular in Chinese bakeries)

  1. I think this is the best method I’ve seen on YouTube. I usually dump rice
    flour mixture into turnip that’s cooking in a wok but it gets hard to mix.
