Item number one is a mini fridge. For most of you this will probably already be in your dorm room. If it isn’t definitely get one right away. If you’re living the vegan lifestyle this mini fridge is going to be your savior. Stock it with items you know aren’t going to be easily accessible, such as vegan cheeses, coconut yogurt, hummus, and of course vegetables. It’s also great for keeping your drinks cold, whatever type of drinks they might be.
Item number two is a personal sized smoothie blender. Not only can you use this personal sized smoothie blender to make smoothies from fruit you can easily snag in the cafeteria it can also be used to make a variety of other foods. You can also use it to make soups, breakfast foods, margaritas, or whatever suits your fancy. It’s an extremely handy item to have and since it’s small it’s easily stored.
Item number three is a pasta maker or alternatively a rice cooker. You can of course make pasta or rice in them. You can also cook a wide variety of other things in them. Quinoa, risotto, soup, oatmeal, steamed vegetables and cereal are all fine examples of foods that can be easily cooked in your pasta maker or rice cooker.
Item number four is an electric kettle. An electric kettle is nothing short of an indispensable item to have in your dorm room. You will, of course, be needing it for coffee. It’s also great for making ramen, tea, oatmeal, and anything else that requires hot water in a hurry. Also, again, this is a small item as well and easily stored. The more space you can conserve in your tiny dorm room the better.
Item number five is a microwave. For many of you a microwave is something you will already have. If you don’t have one, get one immediately. You can literally cook anything in a microwave. Instead of cooking hot pockets and lean cuisine in it use it to cook healthy vegan food like sweet potatoes, banana bread, s’mores, quinoa, nachos, risotto, or even mac n’ cheese. The possibilities are endless.
Item number six is a panini press or waffle iron. Both of these items will double as a grill or even a frying pan. That means you can make stir fry, veggie burgers, or basically anything you might want to fry. You can also use the waffle iron to reheat your leftovers and turn them into what Candice calls “fun waffles”. You can make brownies, cookies, smashed potatoes, and even grilled cheese sandwiches.
The final item on this list is a toaster oven. Apparently some schools no longer allow toaster ovens but if you happen to be at one that does than definitely add it to your collection. You can bake and roast practically anything in a toaster oven. Candice once cooked and entire thanksgiving dinner in a toaster oven in fact. You can use it in the same you would any traditional oven just keep in mind you have space constraints to contend with.
Armed with these seven essential back to school dorm room items you will be the envy of your entire dorm as you whip up amazing meals that are healthy and exceedingly quick and easy to prepare.

You need to make a book ?
TOO MANY THINGSSSSS! I want like, 2. I’m not even in college. LOL
True! No one would ever need all of them in one dorm room, or a dinky
little apartment like mine. I wouldnt even fit half of the things mentioned
(like a microwave – I can’t even…)
Didn’t mean to sound like a jerk!
I never suggested getting all of them, those were items that would be
handy, you can pick 1 or 2 or heck maybe all of them- but obviously that’s
not necessary
Suuuuuuuper classist.
Candice your eyes are sooooo beautiful. You looking pretty damn good
today.. xoxo
toaster ovens look so cool! I want to see the thanksgiving dinner cooked in
one! :D
Can you please do some rice cooker recipes?
The only thing is in my dorm we’re not allowed to have anything with “an
exposed heating element”, and this includes basically everything except a
microwave and mini fridge. I know that they’re better than nothing, but…
