    1. +Elmo All animals are intelligent, and intelligent in ways we as a species can not even understand. But, we do not commonly eat bats, or iguanas, or spiders, or seals, etc. It’s not a matter of them not being intelligent, it’s just that we figured out a way centuries ago to kill and prepare these animals for survival. Because, even though in most first world countries we don’t eat the animals I’ve named for sustenance, other countries have and we look at them crazy for doing so lol. Do I believe by evolutionary means that this was meant to happen, yes. We were placed here ,and had to figure out how to keep breathing, functioning, and thriving. But do I believe that we went too far with it, and figured out harmful ways to us and our planet to provide these sources in mass marketing and for self gain, yes. Absolutely. It’s all about what kind of lifestyle can you live with on your conscious. I believe there is such things as a healthy ethical balance.

    2. +Elmo 1. Most humans nowadays would not survive in the wild either. Is it okay to eat them?
      2. Pigs are actually just as smart as dogs. So you definitely should not eat them if you are against eating dogs.
      I could go on 🙂

    3. Great video. Very interesting. I have a question about the speciesism argument. Because sometimes I get the human superiority argument bundled together with the “it’s natural” argument. How can we say, we should treat all animals the equal (and equal to humans), and then not interfere when a lion kills a zebra. We would definitely interfere if a human tried to kill another human. Would love to hear some discussions and arguments.

  1. That exact quote is one of the very first seeds planted in my head into the direction of veganism. I didn’t consider going vegan at that time because it was on a picture of a bear inside a zoo, sitting in a concrete corner with 2 kids laying on the barbed cage above him. But it really hit home with me on how wrong it is to think human animals are better than non human animals!
‘The idea that some lives matter less is the root of all that is wrong with this world.’

But I do think that for each person, we all have our own journeys towards veganism that requires a few key seeds to be planted and contemplated about over time! Some ppl will never go vegan, b/c at the end of the day they just don’t care about it. But others just need time to process the info.

I really enjoyed this conversation and think it’s super cool that your philosophy class had this topic! I wonder if your philosophy professor is vegan now also??!

  2. I love how you pepper your happy go lucky channel with these one-two punches. These talks make a difference. Thank you so much for sharing!

  3. I would argue that you don’t even have to be sentient. Its literally, “can it suffer?”. I think it’s even worse for less intelligent beings because they don’t have a mental capacity to distract them from pain. They’re existence is so minute to minute that the suffering is worse in a way. They can’t talk to themselves in their own heads and say things like, “it won’t last forever, you can make it through this” etc. Its just abject pain and fear.

  4. I never thought about the suffering and specism Argument. It makes so much sense. I trried veganism due to the health benefits a year ago. I was vegan for 3 months and actually never felt better in my life. I was Not able to keep it up cause i wasnt morally invested in it, I just saw it as a diet. Thank you for inspiring me. I will educate myself further but this really spoke to me.🤔

  5. Damn, Rose! You went deep! I loved it! Great things to think about. I’ve been constantly adjusting and tweeking my vegan dialogue with people, trying to find a way to talk to people that will open up a dialogue, instead of shutting down and becoming defensive. I love the calm, rational, academic way of having a discussion. It definitely makes people not feel as attacked if you just pose questions and talk about philosophical theories. Thanks for the video.

  6. Non related question, I will do a seperated Comment on the Content of this video. Im not sure how ads work on yt. Do you have any saying in what will be played before and in ur Videos? Cause i just got a Food ad for a beef dish product from my local grocery store Chain. Which i think is a bit contraproductive to say the least haha😅
