✨HELP ME MAKE VEGAN FOOD FUN AGAIN✨
This vegan wing recipe is my easiest yet! Make crispy cauliflower wings deep-fried OR baked and try them saucy with vegan buffalo sauce or dry spiced with Chinese salt and pepper flavour.
— TIMESTAMPS —
Batter: 2:16
Buffalo Sauce: 2:46
Salt & Pepper Mix: 3:12
Baking: 3:56 (bake at 425°F)
Deep-frying: 6:04
For Vegan Buffalo Wings, I prefer to deep-fry. The deep-fried batter holds up better to a liquidy sauce; but these wings can’t swim! In the video, I dumped the fried cauliflower into the sauce and then tossed. However, later I found it was better to sauce them in half batches adding half the cauliflower to a bowl, add half the sauce, then toss and plate. This way, the wings were coated more evenly and more of them stayed crispy.
For the Vegan Salt and Pepper Wings, I made things super easy by using onion and garlic powder as well as cayenne powder instead of the fresh versions that I used in my previous tutorial for Salt and Pepper Tofu. You can certainly use the process in Salt and Pepper Tofu tutorial and just use your cauliflower wings in place of the tofu; but this version is just a bit less work with one less pan to wash.
Someone’s going to ask if you can use an airfryer for this recipe. An airfryer is simply a convection oven so the answer is yes! You’ll have to adjust the cook time for your particular model though.
I really hope you make one both of these and let me know how it goes. Bonus points for sending me the pic on Instagram. Don’t forget to tag me in the photo and not just the caption (@marystestkitchen) so I don’t miss it!

Mary I love love love your recipes, but please consider using a different vegan butter than earth balance. It contains a lot of palm oil, which is incredibly bad for the environment.
Also, you could add some tumeric or paprika to the batter so they not only sound and surely taste, but look amazing too!
Cauliflower crumblies are the spilled glitter of the vegetable world! I _hate_ having to clean them up. How is it possible that they won’t wash off the cutting board?! They’re not even sticky! This recipe is the vegan bee’s knees, Mary, as I have been looking for a different cauli wing recipe from the usual. TFP : )
I’ve tried (and sadly failed) 5+ different cauliflower wing recipes, but this is the first time I’ve ever seen a batter that called for flax and corn starch. Maybe those are the missing ingredients!
Pro tip: Frank’s buffalo sauce is vegan! It has “butter-type” flavor which is a fancy way of saying there isn’t any butter in the product. The company has confirmed the flavor had no dairy ingredients. 😊
Oil free fries are crunchy if you know how to make them correctly…
True. You gotta do what is right for your own body 🙂
Glad you like it. If someone is following eliminating oils for heart/cholesterol health reasons though, baking is a great alternative and is a “fun” vegan food also because the fun is the taste of those spices, yum!!! Enjoy 🙂
+sn232 The type of crunch is not the same.
True, but the flavor! It’s just not the same! As long you eat deep fried things in moderation…it’s ok once in a while
